How to get paint out of carpet? If that’s the question you are looking for, then you are in the right place. But, unfortunately, no matter the cautious step you take and with the precision of marksmen to paint, some paint droplets always end up on the carpet. In this guide, we will break down how to remove paint from carpet.

How To Get Paint Out Of Carpet

Everyone despises paint on carpet because painting is hard work in itself, and no one wants to spend more time cleaning. The best way to remove paint from carpet is to prevent it. But if that ship has sailed, let’s make the cleaning part a little easier for you.

Wet Paint

If you are lucky enough to spot the paint on your carpet when it’s wet, then the cleaning process is a lot easier. Most damp paint can be easily cleaned and doesn’t need much hard work.

Use the paper towel to blot as much as you can. Most paint gets easily removed when it’s wet, and make sure not to scrub on the carpet. Remove paint from the carpet “outside-in” order so that it won’t spread across the carpet. Make sure not to use excessive force to clean. Otherwise, it will be soaked deep in the carpet.

Dry Paint

If the paint is dried on the carpet, then it will be a little harder to remove. No need to worry; we have a solution for how to get dried paint out of carpet. Cleaning dried paint needs little more than a paper towel because the paint already sticks to the carpet, and rubbing it will make it worse.

Mix hot water with dish detergent and pour this mixer into the stained area.

It will soften the paint and lose grip on the carpet. Next, use the putty knife to scrape off the other paint on the carpet. After that, use a clean cloth to blot the paint and soap water. Most of the paint will be removed easily, but if there is still some paint left on the carpet, repeat the process of pouring hot water and dish detergent on that area.

Make sure that all the paint and soap mixture is cleaned. Most people leave the cleaning part after the paint stain is removed, but if the soapy mixture is still on the carpet, it will ruin it. Most cleaning carpet stains come from specks of dirt, and if the soapy mixture is still in the carpet, it will create a whole lot of mess, and you will be back to square one on cleaning.

Although this is the essential guide to remove paint from carpet, if you are looking for a different solution to clean paint on carpet, we have an answer for that. Not all types of paint can be removed easily from the carpet; some of it needs a little bit of extra attention to detail.

Wet Acrylic Paint

Acrylic paint dries faster, and that means cleaning needs to be done right away. There are many methods of cleaning acrylic paint, and one of the effective methods we have mentioned above. However, if the carpet stain is too hard to clean, you need to try some different options.

Mix hot water with white vinegar to clean acrylic paint off the carpet. This is a tested method that works on every type of carpet and acrylic paint. Use one part of white vinegar with every ten amounts of water, make sure it’s hot and spray it on the stained part. Next, clean it with a paper towel or sponge. Do not scrub but blot it gently; after that, use the cold water to blot the paint out of it.

Dry Acrylic Paint

If the acrylic paint dried on the carpet, then we can use other methods as well. First, use the putty knife and needle-nose pliers to remove paint from the carpet as much as you can. Now use the rubbing alcohol and soak a dry cloth in it till it is fully saturated. Then use that cloth to soak the paint stain on your carpet and let it soak there for 10 minutes. After that, use a dry cloth to soak all the rubbing alcohol with the remaining paint.

If the stain remains, you can use liquid glycerin with the same method. Soak a dry cloth in glycerine and blot the paint. Make sure it soaks on the carpet for as long as it needs to.

If everything fails, use the concentrated acetone. Make sure to ventilate the area as acetone has a strong smell. Let it soak on the carpet for 20 minutes and blot it with a dry cloth.

How to Get Latex Paint Out of Carpet

Removing Latex Paint from carpet is relatively easy as compared to acrylic paint. You can use dish detergent or vinegar to clean the carpet stain. First, try to clean as much as you can with a paper towel or sponge. After that, mix the dish detergent or vinegar with lukewarm water and soak it on the carpet. After that, the latex paint will be easily removed from the carpet.
