When decorating lofts, one must first consider what style you want for your home. The possibilities are endless, so finding the right style you want can be more complicated than you think. Decorating can be a hassle, so here are a few recommendations to get you on the right path.

What Is Your Decorating Style?

The first thing people do is look for ideas in decorating magazines. That’s great; pay attention to your preferences from the many decorating styles out there; Whether you favour contemporary decorating, minimalist designs or eclectic decor, your home is your canvas, so let it be a reflection of your personality.

Dividing the Space

After considering your style next step is to decide how to distribute your space. This can be done with furniture that can act as borders to different rooms, rugs to highlight the other areas or even room dividers to help create separate sections in the loft. A raised platform to set apart the bedroom from the rest of the home is efficient and popular.

Furniture and accessories

Just like your style, it’s essential to ensure that your furniture and accessories reflect your personality and your theme.

  • When it comes to sofas or chairs, it is better to stick to neutral colours, like shades of white, beige tan, greys, dark browns and even solid black. Many consider leather for its slick, clean look.
  • Don’t rush into getting generic, boring furniture. Take the time to find strange yet practical furniture for your home; remember they will be in your loft for a while. Unique and original tables, closets, and chairs can serve as a decorative pieces and a great conversation starter.
  • Vases in an array of colours and sizes can inject life into your loft. Vases can practically go anywhere. In addition or as a replacement to the coloured vases, big, clear vases filled with bamboo sticks, rocks, or potpourri, can add some life to your loft. If they’re big and bold enough, then you don’t even need to fill them with anything.
  • For smaller spaces, a simple platter with lemons, limes, or green apples, can serve as a creative way to decorate. And you’ll have a healthy snack at hand.
  • Houseplants also serve as a decorative item in your home, especially if it has a stylish planter. Also, it tells visitors you’re a warm and responsible person. Some individuals get exotic plants, such as bonsai trees, to give them a more mysterious look.
  • Don’t settle for a plain magazine or CD/DVD racks. You can find designer looking ones at most stores today. Even renowned interior designers have collections.

Rugs

As mentioned before, area rugs help separate and individualize each section. Coloured rugs are always a great option. They don’t just make a statement but brighten up a particular unit. It doesn’t matter what type of flooring you have; you’ll want to add area rugs to keep your feet warm, provide comfort when you walk and make less noise when moving around.

What’s on your walls?

Depending on what kind of building your loft is in, you may have exposed brick and timber. This type of setting can affect the way you decorate the walls. This is not a problem. There a plenty of ways to adapt and still decorate your walls.

Collectible ads and posters

Find retro ads or vintage movie posters and hang them up. You can find these at local antique markets, stores, or garage sales. It doesn’t take much of an artistic eye to see how these can spice up your place.

Mirrors

Some lofts are smaller than others; a great way to create the illusion of more space is to hang large mirrors on the walls. Make sure that the frames of the mirrors match the style you are implementing.

Photos

Remember it’s a home; give it your personal touch and a warm feeling with individual pictures of yourself, family and any significant events of your life.

Lofts

Lighting

Lighting can be a challenge when decorating a loft. In the daytime, letting natural light into your loft is a must. However, lofts do need good lighting when it becomes darker. High ceilings in lofts will dictate the type of fixtures that can be used. If your ceilings are very high, consider floor lamps that extend over the furniture; wall sconces and table lamps will sufficiently light spaces up and down.

According to Experts Dallas TX Lofts: “The décor in a home or apartment needs to flow area to area; many mistakes are made because people tend to clutter or over decorate certain areas. Another tip is to use the elements already in place in the loft, as they give the loft character and reflect the original history. For example, exposed pipes and brick walls are usually a mainstay in most lofts, so if you have them, incorporate them.”

Also, consider that one of the advantages of lofts in Dallas is you can have many electrical devices such as lamps and not worry too much about high electric bills, “In Dallas, you have a choice in who you get your electricity from. Just like everything else in Texas, competition between electricity providers is a BIG deal. It keeps consumer costs lower and gives people the power to choose.” Says GridMoms.com. So don’t be afraid to light up your home.

When decoration your loft space, always keep in mind your budget and the space you have to work with. Don’t rush into projects; invest time and find the decorations and accessories to make your loft better and more efficient. Always consider what is best for you and how you want it to look. And remember, the most important aspect of decorating is to have fun.
